THE WEST WAY

Our team first vibe means everything to WFHSXC.  We will celebrate every runner's journey towards finding their best self.   WFHSXC state results rank with the best in the large school classification.

We will strive for team excellence at all levels.  Varsity & JV both matter.  Each person matters.

We can be both very good friends and very good runners all at the same time.  Pursuit of team friendly culture and championship level performance are not mutually exclusive goals but are instead symbiotic

STATE

Guys finish 2nd.

Best we've ever done at West

Girls finish 6th

Ran into some adversity

68 degrees & high dew point made it tough.

Course got lengthened out again after being adjusted to a true 5K length last year for the 1st time in years.

SECTIONALS

Survive and advance is the name of the game.  Top 12 teams qualify for state.

Girls with a strong 2nd place showing which also made them region champs!

Guys 3rd behind Denmark and Harrison earn region runner's up honors.

Weird new meet.  Funky vibe.

JV MADNESS

New format now that we don't have region meets.  Super happy we found championship caliber races to end the JV season.

Guys 1st in both races.

Girls 4th and 3rd.  Good showings against good competition.

New letters winners pushed us 53% for the year.  Highest % ever.

COACH WOOD

West returns to Coach Wood for the 1st time since 2016.  Other coaches think we haven't attended because we are afraid of competition.  Wonder what they think now?

Super epic foggy morning that we will all remember for a very long time.

Guys team went 2nd, 1st, 1st.

15 of the top 20 all class teams participated

Girls teams went 7th, 5th, 3rd.

17 of the top 20 all class teams participated

MILE MADNESS

A team tradition continues for its 12th year.

Happy to share the madness with the

local middle school runners.

Thanks to the parents for coming out to

Support and in some cases to run.

Good energy and fast times from the runners.

Some fun costumes.

Now!  Let's go turn this into great races.

SOUTHERN SHOWCASE

The hurricane held off enough for us to race.

Sogggy, lumpy, crowded, warm, humid day

Some fine team performances against quality competition from GA, AL, TN, KY, LA

We struggled with pre race nutrition and hydration and it came back to bother many.

I hope you got to know your teammates better.  That is a big reason why to do these trips.

MUSTANG STAMPEDE

Good chance for us to run on the course where most will end the season.

Varsity squads both win.  JV guys sweep.

JV girls lose by 1 point.

Savannah, Preston and Bella got race Ws.

Game plan was under control early and try hard late.  For the most part, we executed

great.

Bowling was fun!

Girl's varsity and guy's JV got team wins.

Guy's varsity and girl's JV with close 2nds

Very supportive teammates = WINNING!

Now... on to 5Ks!

CHEROKEE CLASSIC

Our objective for this race was to execute on the fundamentals and focus on the right mindset and posture towards a race.

Our athletes did a great job and were rewarded with 3 team wins, 2 individual race wins and extremely valuable experience.

GREAT turn out at Moe's!  Please keep showing up.   Becoming a WE versus a 100 person collection of MEs is the goal

TEAM TIME TRIAL

An excellent start to the season.

Athletes made it to the starting line and had very solid results for our season opening "rust buster".

Loved the attitude and effort of the new runners.  Veterans ran fast and many had very nice improvements from our TT on the same course last year.

Outstanding parent support.

DOG LOOP TEMPO #!

Several things to learn, both for the coaches and especially for the athletes.

One thing to especially consider is your long term progression.   Most of our upper classmen have come a long way since their first Dog Loop tempo.

Direct link from attending practices and speed

For our freshmen and new runners, hopefully this will be the first of many visits to the dog loop!
